It has become a crying need of the hour that women, specially rural ones, should be made aware about health, education, safe delivery, cancer, environment etc. With this in view, the Union government started Bharat Jagriti Yatra since September 1 from Kanyakumari. However, much before start of this Yatra, women’s awareness programmes have already been introduced by Madhya Pradesh government in the state. It may be mentioned that last month a grand rally was taken out and a human chain formed on the occasion of Doctors’ Day under the aegis of Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecologists Society of India in protest against embryo killings and sex discrimination.
Society’s president and programme’s moving spirit Dr. Malti Bhojwani informed that special campaigns are being undertaken in the rural areas of the state for making women aware about safe delivery and diseases like anaemia and cancer which a woman might develop during pregnancy and the ways to prevent and cure these diseases. Besides, women are also being made aware of their rights with a view to saving them from exploitation. The responsibility of conducting this programme in the rural areas is being carried out by society’s vice-president Dr. Chhaya Budhwani and secretary Dr. Anita Shrivastava.
