Bhopal,September 17, 2008:With a view to introducing people to the life, culture, arts, food habits and dresses etc of various tribal clans in the state, a colourful ‘Vanvasi Utsav’ will be organised at Ravindra Bhawan in Bhopal from September 22 to 24.
‘Vanvasi Utsav’ is a novel organisation aimed at introducing the masses with traditional lifestyle, livelihood and arts and culture of forest dwellers living in remote areas. During the three-day grand and memorable function, forest dwellers’ traditional employment activities, expertise and products will be displayed and sold. Besides, visitors will also be able to have a glimpse of their forest-based livelihood, food habits, their dances, music, art, culture and paintings. One of the purposes of the festival is revival of tribals’ traditional musical instruments and for this their dances, music and instruments will also be displayed. Light will also be thrown on handicraft items made by tribals. Photographs of ancient murals found in the forests will also be on display.
Visitors can also savour tribal delicacies during the festival. Laddus made of Mahua will be a special attraction. Besides, the available literature about tribal patriots, warriors, public heroes and artistes will be displayed through exhibition of books and folk literature. Ornaments worn on head, throat, arms, back, hands, feet and fingers will be exhibited. Other attractions will include tribal art of dying clothes, painting, Alpana, Rangoli, henna application, goods made of bamboo stick, wood and leaves, incense sticks, candles etc. Contests of photography, painting and debate focusing tribals will also be held apart from various exhibitions on tribals’ social milieu, livelihood, religious rituals and culture.
