Bhopal:Wednesday, July 30 :The Major irrigation projects have had a draw back that they are understood to be completed by making distribution net work up to 40 hectare. Beyond this 40 hectare units the most important link to carry the water to individual field left to be completed by other agencies. This makes a gap in between the created and actual irrigation potential. Bridging this gap Narmada Valley Development Authority has decided to take up the construction of this micro distribution network along with the macro distribution system . The V.C. of NVDA Pradeep Bhargava today gave detail instructions to the NVDA Engineers asking them to prepare detail project reports (DPR) of the required field channel network in the command area of the various projects.
After processing the DPR the work would be done under NREGS by elected water user associations or gram panchayats. V.C. said that there is no any dearth of funds and after rains are over, a campaign would be launched for this . He directed officials to complete the process of electing water users associations in the command areas and trained the chairpersons of WUAS so as to take responsibility to carry out the construction of field channels and operation and maintenance of canal network. V.C. said that the true objects of the Naramda valley irrigation projects would only be translated by the utilization of potential by the farmers. He asked Engineers to zeroin at this point.
A decision was also taken to make the flow of water in Rani Avanti Bai Sagar distribution network to irrigate 1.20 lakh hectare of Rabi crop and 32000 hectare from Bargi Diversion project V.C. expressed displeasure on slow pace of progress by construction agencies in RABS project and warned Chief Engineer to be proactive for close monitoring and better coordination amongst the different aspects of the construction. Member Engg. V.K. Bhatia explained the forward planning prepared for various project.
