Bhopal:Thursday, September 18, 2008:Recipients of the three national awards instituted by Tribal Welfare Department will be honoured at the decoration function to be held at 11 am at Ravindra Bhawan, Bhopal on September 24. The recipients include Smt. Rose Kerketta of Ranchi for the first Veerangana Rani Durgawati National Award-2008, Shri Finfam Sin Nongkinrih of Meghalay for Veer Shankar Shah-Raghunath Shah Award-2008 and Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission, Uttar Vainad, Kerala for Thakkar Bapa National Award-2008. Governor Dr. Balram Jakhar, Forest and Tribal Welfare Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah and Minister of State for General Administration Smt. Ranjana Baghel will be present on the occasion. All the tribal awards carry Rs two lakh in cash each and honour plaque.
Giving information about Rani Durgawati National Award, Shri Shriram Tiwari, managing director of Vanya, an undertaking of Tribal Welfare Department, said that this award is given to a tribal woman by the state government for her unparalleled achievements in fine arts, social service and administration. The Shankar Shah-Raghunath Shah National Award is bestowed for remarkable writings about creative beauty of tribal life, traditions etc. and Thakkar Bapa National Award is meant for promoting brotherhood among backward and downtrodden tribal society and serve them dedicatedly.
