Bhopal:Wednesday, July 30 ; The present state government has given top priority to construction of roads and bridges as part of infrastructure development. In comparison to the year 2002-03, six time more funds have been spent in the year 2007-08 under these heads.
Public Works Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya informed that during the year 2002-03 Rs 225.19 crore from Plan head (general), Rs 45.71 crore from Tribal Sub-Plan and Rs 17.64 crore from Scheduled Tribe Area Development Scheme head was spent on the construction of roads and bridges while during the financial year 2007-08, this expenditure was to the tune of Rs 1194.87 crore from Plan head (general), Rs 377.57 from Tribal Sub-Plan and Rs 294.07 from Scheduled Tribe Area Development Scheme.
In the year 1996-97 only Rs 53.63 crore was received under the above three heads out of which RS 49.72 crore was spent on construction of roads and bridges.
