Bhopal, June 11:Higher Education Department of the state government has decided to introduce semester system in first year of graduation and first half of post-graduate course in college from the new academic session 2008-09. An orientation training workshop is being organised with a view to implementing this system in a better way. The two-day workshop would commence from 9.30 am on June 14 at Government Sarojini Naidu Girls College at Bhopal.
The Higher Education Department has made principals of all the leading colleges aware of rules and process of semester system. Commissioner Higher Education has instructed them to ensure implementation of semester system in a phased manner.
In the first phase, principals would constitute a semester system cell in their colleges. One of every faculty would be nominated as member of the cell. Senior most teacher would be made coordinator of the cell.
In the second phase, orientation training workshop about semester system would be organised at Bhopal on June 14 and 15. Principal of every leading college would send two teachers for undergoing training at the workshop. They would be imparted training of project work of semester system, continuous evaluation process and job internship.
The teachers likely to take part in the workshop have been asked to bring with them a list of those local institutions which provide working experience to students. These may be government/non-government/private institutions where students can get working experience for six months continuously.
In the third phase, the teachers of leading colleges trained at this workshop, would act as master trainers and each master trainer would in turn train two teachers of colleges in the concerning district. These trained teachers would work in the semester cell of their respective colleges.
Principals of leading colleges have been instructed to implement the action plan and outlines chalked out for teachers’ training in the third and fourth weeks of the current month.
Principals have also been instructed to ensure that all the teachers get well-versed about the semester system before the start of the new academic session.
