Yasha Sharma, Bhopal:March 28,Madhya Pradesh is the lone state where ‘Sarangi Utsav’ is held, which is exclusively centred on Sarangi instrument. Madhya Pradesh government would establish a ‘Sarangi Kendra’ with a view to promoting the art of playing this rare instrument. Talented students would be imparted
high-level training by established Sarangi maestros at this centre. Besides, the Madhya Pradesh government would also incept a Rs 51 thousand award in the memory of the late Padmashri Ustad Abdul Latif Khan in the arena of Sarangi.
These announcements were made by Culture and Public Relations Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma at the concluding function of two-day Sarangi Utsav at Ravindra Bhawan, Bhopal last night. Those present on this occasion included former chief minister Shri Sundarlal Patwa, wife of the late Ustad Abdul Latif Khan Shrimati Basheeran Bi, his relatives and large number of Sarangi lovers. The Culture Minister further said that the late Ustad Abdul Latif Khan had dedicated his entire life to the cause of music and his music really touched the hearts. Through his disciples, we can still feel melody of his music. Shri Sharma said that ‘Sarangi Utsav’ is a tribute to the late Abdul Latif Khan.
At the outset, director of Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Akademi, Shri Arun Palnitkar welcomed the guests. On this occasion, Shri Laxmikant Sharma honoured guest musicians by presenting them shawls and mementoes. Shri Murad Ali from Delhi played on Sarangi followed by vocal rendition by Shrimati Padma Talwalkar from Mumbai with Tabla accompaniment by Shri Anindo Chatterjee from Kolkata at the conclusion of the two-day function, which was organised Ustad Alauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Akademi, Sanskriti Parishad, Bhopal with the cooperation of Latif Khan Trust and Yaman Akademi, Bhopal. Those who gave accompaniment to these artistes included Sarvashri Kiran Deshpande, Ramswarup Rataunia, Nafees Ahmad Khan, Bhopal on Tabla, Farooq Latif Khan from Indore, Sarwar Hussain Khan of Bhopal and Vivek Basod on Sarangi.Culture Minister Shri Sharma, guests as well as music lovers were enchanted by the musical presentations made at the function with the core of their hearts.
