Bhopal:Wednesday, March 17 : The role of Air Force is very important in defending India’s international terrestrial as well coastal borders. Indian Air Force is discharging these challenging duties efficiently. These views were expressed by Air Marshal Anjan Kumar Gogoi while addressing a workshop at RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration here today. The workshop was held on the topic ‘Role of district administration in protection from aerial attacks’. The function was presided over by Delhi’s Resident Commissioner and former Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence Shri Vimal Julka. Academy’s Director General Dr. Sandeep Khanna, Director Shri Muktesh Varshney and trainee officers of All-India/Central Services were present at the workshop.
Air Marshal Gogoi said that it is the responsibility of the district administration during the aerial attacks to protect people’s lives and property with the assistance of police and people. He informed that Indian Air Force was incepted on October 8, 1932 by the name of Royal Air Force, which was renamed as Indian Air Force after the country’s independence. Shri Gogoi threw light in detail on the structure, functioning, its five air command areas, fleet of aircraft, radar system etc. He informed that in the event of natural calamities, the Indian Air Forces rushes to the help of affected people as per instructions of Ministry of Defence. The Air Force also undertakes the work of airdropping food packets for the people marooned in flooded areas. In case of a calamity, the district administration should immediately intimate about it to the nearest air command. The Air Marshall informed that the Air Force maintains surveillance of areas affected by Maoist and Naxal violence, which helps the local forces. Shri Gogoi also gave replies to the questions posed by the trainee officers.
Earlier, Director General Dr. Sandeep Khanna welcomed the guests. He said that this workshop will be useful for the trainee officers.
Addressing the workshop, Shri Vimal Julka said that Indian Air Force is discharging its duties efficiently and responsibly. The district administration should work as a nodal agency during an aerial attack and send necessary information to Air Force headquarters. He said that Air Force is being constantly modernised.
