Bhopal,May 8:Proposals of 86 villages in Indore district have been forwarded to the Union government under Nirmal Gram scheme. A central team would visit these villages this month for assessment of sanitary works. This assessment team would present its report to the Union government on the basis of which Nirmal Grams would be selected.
Additional Collector Development and District Panchayat Shri Mahesh Chandra Choudhary said that Indore district has carved out a distinctive place under Nirmal Gram scheme. Bachhera, a village in Indore district has the distinction of becoming first Nirmal Gram of the state. Later, this honour was given to 28 more villages in the district last year. Drawing inspiration from this, now 86 villages have been made Nirmal Grams. The proposals of these villages have been prepared and sent to the Union government for approval. Members of the central assessment team would visit each of these villages and verify the sanitation works there. Later, the team would submit its report to the Union government which would form basis of selection as Nirmal Gram. Under sanitation campaign, flush latrines have been constructed at every house in these villages while drains have been constructed under community sanitation. Works have also been done for concretizing village roads and lanes, garbage bins have been placed and soaking pits have been dug with a view ensuring all round cleanliness and sanitation in these villages.
