Bhopal:Sunday, August 3 :On the initiative of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana was launched about two years ago which has proved a great boon for poor girls. Under this ambitious scheme of the state government, so far 73 thousand 570 girls’ marriages have been solemnised. Due to this scheme, parents of poor girls did not have to face any economic restraints. Record number of marriages were performed at many places under the scheme.
In the year 2006-07 marriages of 13 thousand 498 girls were solemnised and in the year 2007-08, thirty two thousand 621 marriages were solemnised. During the first three months of the current financial year, the state government has solemnised marriage of 27 thousand 451 girls. Rs eight crore 98 lakh was spent on the scheme in the year 2006-07, Rs 19 crore 57 lakh in the year 2007-08 and Rs 18 crore 10 lakh in the first three months of the current year.
Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana has rid parents of poor girls of the worries about their marriage. Marriages are solemnised under this scheme in a simple manner without any unnecessary expenditures. The state government gives Rs 5000 to the newly wed couples to start their married life apart from household articles. These include 43 utensils, eight pieces of jewellery and 13 other essential items.
