Bhopal:Wednesday, July 9:Eye and oral diseases can hamper education process of schoolchildren. With this in view, a campaign has been launched for conducting check-up on children studying in government schools and treat them if found suffering from any of these ailments. No government school student would be left uncovered under this special drive being conducted by Commissioner Public Instructions. The work of implementing the campaign has been entrusted to District Education Officers and Red Cross officials.
The state government has accomplished many schemes for improving educational standard of government schools and providing basic amenities there. The constant improvement in exam results is an ample proof of success of these schemes. With a view to further improving this process, the state government has launched the health check-up drive for the government schools’ students so that eyesores and oral diseases do not hamper their educational progress.
Oral check-up has been included in the campaign in view of the fact that many students, especially those who have passed class eight exam, develop the habit of gutkha chewing. This addiction might prove costly to them and the timely help from the state government in the shape of check-up and treatment would be beneficial for their health as well academic career. Eye diseases are also a constant source of disruption in schoolchildren’s educational process. Therefore, it was also imperative to incorporate eye check-up in the campaign.
Under the strategy chalked out in this connection District Education Officers and District Red Cross Officers would devote full time in the month of September to monitoring of this drive. They would have to ensure cent percent coverage. After September, this process would be taken up every Saturday at the office of the District Education Officer. In another important decision, a state level eye check-up camp would also be organised for school children. Twenty percent share of schools’ contribution to Red Cross is received by the state Red Cross Society. Therefore, this amount can be utilised for this purpose. Noted specialists would render their services at the state level camp. Contact has been made with the Indian Red Cross Society in this connection.
The task of eye check-up drive has been entrusted to different agencies. Rajya Shiksha Kendra has been asked to do the same for students up to class VIII while it would be conducted by Tribal Development Department in 89 tribal-predominant development blocks in 19 districts.
