15 Sep : The benefit of Merit-cum-Means Scholarship is being given to the poor and talented students of Minority communities for studying in technical and professional colleges. This scholarship scheme is being implemented in co-operation with the Central Government. This year the last date for submission of fresh and renewal application forms has been extended till September 30, 2010. Earlier the last date was fixed at August 31.

The benefit of Merit-cum Means Scholarship is given to poor and talented students belonging to the minority communities including Muslim, Christian, Parsi, Bouddh and Sikh for studying in technical and professional colleges. The scholarship is given to those students who have secured more than 50 per cent marks in Class XII and if their parents’ total annual income does not exceed Rs 2.5 lakh. Under this scheme, quota has been fixed for each community. Out of this quota, 30 per cent seats are reserved for women. Under this scheme Rs. One thousand is given to students living in hostels and Rs 500 to other students per month for a period of 10 months as scholarship.
Under this Merit-cum-Means scholarship, more than Rs one crore 50 lakhs have been distributed to 615 students during the last financial year. Online facility has been provided for downloading application forms for applying Merit-cum-Means scholarship. An I T Cell has been opened at the office of the Directorate of Minorities and Backward Classes situated at Satpura Bhavan in Bhopal.
