Bhopal:Friday, July 25 :Country’s first ever model blood bank is going to be set up at Hamidia Hospital, Bhopal. Another major blood bank would be established at Indore. Besides, blood storage centres would be set up in 26 selected districts. These would become functional by September 15 next. Officers of central and state governments made a spot inspection in this regard today.
Preparations are in full swing for establishment of the model blood bank at Bhopal. The equipments for this centre would be supplied by the central government while the state government would shoulder the responsibility of providing infrastructure and staff. The same process would be adopted for establishment of a major blood bank at Indore and blood storage centres in 26 districts. Participation of Rogi Kalyan Samitis and public representatives would be ensured in this process.
Principal Secretary, Medical Education Shri M.M. Upadhyaya directed the Dean of Gandhi Medical College to go on a study tour of reputed blood banks of the country in this regard. He has explained the responsibilities to all the heads of departments of Gandhi Medical College. All these centres would come into being till September 15 next.
Joint Secretary in the Union Health Ministry Dr. Praveer Krishna informed that establishment of country’s first ever model blood bank at Bhopal is a creditable achievement and matter of pride of Madhya Pradesh. Through this the percentage of voluntary blood donation would be increased from 65 to 95 percent at national level through community involvement. It would be ensured that the needy get adequate and pure blood. The team of officers included Shri Alankar Malviya of a representative institution of the United Nations and Director of State AIDS Control Committee Dr. Omesh Moondara.
