Bhopal:Wednesday, July 9:The state government has invited applications by August 30, from scheduled castes and scheduled tribes students for awarding ten scholarships for pursuing higher studies abroad. These scholarships would be given for post-research studies, research degree and graduate as well as post-graduate degrees.
The aspirant for post-research scholarship must have passed the post-graduate examination in second division (with a minimum of 50 percent marks or equivalent grade) and possess research degree with experience. Eligibility for scholarship for research degree stipulates that a candidate must have passed the post-graduate exam in the concerning subject in second division (with a minimum of 50 percent marks or equivalent grade) and possess two-years’ experience in study/research/professional experience or M. Phil degree. The criteria for scholarship for post-graduate studies lays down that an aspirant must have passed graduate exam in second division with a minimum of 55 percent marks or equivalent grade and the applicant for graduate course must have passed higher secondary exam with a minimum of 55 percent marks or equivalent grade.
The applicant must be over 18 years and below 35 years of age as on January 1. The upper age limit can be relaxed by 10 years in special cases. The total income of an applicant’s parents/guardians from all the sources must not exceed Rs five lakh per annum. In this connection the candidate would have to attach copy of income certificate issued by the employer and updated income tax return. More than one ward of one parent/guardian would not be eligible for the scholarship. An applicant would be eligible for getting the scholarship only once.
The caste certificate to be attached with the application must not be issued by an authority lesser than sub-divisional officer. Domicile certificate would also have to be attached. The financial assistance under the scholarship scheme would be to the tune of 7700 American dollars or 5,000 pounds sterling whichever is less and annual contingency allowance amounting to 500 American dollars or 300 pounds sterling. It would be payable for the purchase of books, requisite equipment, study tour, typing of thesis and its binding. This amount would be paid on the condition of the applicant’s admission in the concerning institution.
Also would be payable the actual expenditure on visa fee, poll tax (wherever applicable), fees and actual amount of insurance premium. A selected candidate would be paid to and fro air fare of the economy class of the shortest route for reaching the destination nearest to the educational institution and return from there.
Similarly, second class railway fare or bus fare would also be payable for travel to the study centre from the airport and vice versa in the foreign country and for travel from the house to the airport in India and return fare. The duration of the scholarship would be one and a half years for post-research studies, four years for research degree, two years for post-graduate course, four and a half years for graduate medical course, four years for engineering course and three years for graduate in general courses whichever is completed earlier. A selected candidate would have to fulfil all the terms and conditions published in the government gazette about higher studies abroad.
Application forms for ST candidates would be available from July 25. 2008 at the office of Commissioner Tribal Development, Second Floor, Satpura Bhawan, Bhopal. The applicant would have to submit his application form by August 30, 2008 in person or through registered post, speed post or ordinary post. The applicants working government departments or public sector undertaking can obtain advance copies of application forms but they would have to present their application forms through their employer also within a month. No application forms would be entertained for consideration after the last date.
