19 Aug : The state government has simplified the process of sanctioning post-matric scholarship given to backward class students studying in class XI to post-graduate courses. The Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Department with the help of National Informatics Centre (NIC) has evolved a ‘work floor software’ on the internet, which is available on scholarshipportal.mp.nic.in. This process has also brought about transparency in the disposal of cases of scholarships apart from expediting the process. This year, a programme has been chalked out to give this scholarship to 4.50 lakh students belonging to backward classes. Rs 250 crore is estimated to be spent on post-matric scholarships.
Backward Class and Minorities Welfare Commissioner Shri Raghuvir Shrivastava in a letter to district collectors has asked them to ensure payment post-matric scholarships timely. Application forms for the scholarship can be submitted by educational institutions online at the concerning office of District Coordinator Tribal Welfare Department by August 20. The District Coordinators of the concerning districts will sanction scholarships to the eligible students within 30 days.
For post-matric scholarship, educational institutions will collect applications from students and will present the same online by September 30 to the concerning District Coordinator, who in turn sanction the same and send cheques to the concerning educational institutions within 15 days. More information about the process of online applications for post-matric scholarship can be obtained from the office of the District Coordinator Tribal Welfare of the concerning district.
Post-matric scholarship was given to 4 lakh 43 thousand backward class students during the year 2009-10 on which Rs 248 crore was spent.
