Bhopal:April 9, 2008:So far, as much as one lakh 84 thousand metric tonnes of wheat has been procured on support price in various divisions of the state by the Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation. The wheat procured on support price is nearly three times more than the wheat purchased on support price during the entire season last year. It may be noted that a total of 47 thousand metric tonnes of wheat had been procured on support price during the entire Rabi season last year.
Moreover, the State Civil Supply Corporation has started procuring wheat on support price from March 1, 2008, making arrangements for purchase of wheat directly from the farmers. The wheat is being procured at Corporation’s supply centres and selected mandis of the state through the cooperative societies at as many as 925 purchase centres. It may be recalled that the Union Government had announced wheat support price of Rs. one thousand per quintal and subsequently State Government announced a bonus of Rs. hundred per quintal. Thus, the farmers are being paid Rs. 1100 per quintal for their produce.
Further, the Madhya Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation has made elaborate arrangements this year for instant payment for purchase of wheat on support price, bags in sufficient numbers, transportation and storage of wheat being procured on support price. Wheat procured on support price would be distributed under the Public Distribution System (PDS) and other schemes.
The Managing Director, State Civil Supplies Corporation Shri Ashish Shrivastava has appealed to the farmers to bring good quality of wheat at purchase centres so as to seek the optimum benefit of the support price scheme.
