11 Sep : Culture Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma stressed the need for staying alert on the Indian values and culture in journalism. Shri Sharma was addressing the national meeting of the governing body of Indian Media Centre here today. He said that journalism should not weaken the country. Only the journalists could bring improvement in journalism from within and improvement could not be brought from outside. President of Indian Media Centre and senior journalist Shri Chandan Mitra presided while Director of Indian Media Centre and senior journalist Shri Shyam Khosla and Makhanlal Chaturvedi Journalism University Vice Chancellor Shri B. K. Kuthalia were special guests.
Shri Laxmikant Sharma said that a large number of young journalists are coming in the field. They are hard working. They should be given training. He appealed the Indian Media Centre to make available a team of intellectuals for giving training to journalists working in the tehsils and districts. The state government will make arrangement for the training. The Public Relations Minister expressed concern over the attitude of journalism in protecting business and said that mistakes should be pointed out but, at the same time, good works done should also be brought to light. He advised the journalists to read the Indian literatures and books of importance and said that by expanding Indian values our culture and country will be strengthened.
Shri Shyam Khosla said that earlier media faced danger from outside. But today, the danger is from within and the challenges are increased. It is necessary that we should fight against the weakness spread in journalism. He said that this is a time for the media for introspection. The effect of journalism has gone up but at the same time there is lack of trustworthiness. He suggested to starting a media council to strengthen the Press Council. The Media Council should have print media, electronic media and Internet media in it, Shri Khosla said.
Shri Chandan Mitra said Indian Media Centre was set up for bringing improvement and physical development of media. Shri B K Kuthalia stressed the need for giving special importance of Indian values and culture in curriculum of journalism. Indian Media Centre Madhya Pradesh Chapter Coordinator Shri Ramesh Sharma welcomed the guests. Senior journalist Shri Raghavendra Singh conducted the programme.
