Kolkata,13 June:Enacting a law against the Child Labour is not enough to combat the Child Labour menace. Social and economic factors are responsible for inducing child labour, these aspects are to be dealt with comprehensively.
Shri, Mrinal Banerjee MIC Labour dept. W.B. expressed this view while inaugurating a seminar on ‘WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR’ AT Sisir Manch on 12.06.08. He further said that a child should not be considered as a liability. Children are to be moulded towards this future direction, beside formal education arrangement should be there for a vocational training, the State Govt. is doing its best within its jurisdiction to work in this direction, Sri Banerjee stressed the importance of the role of N. G. O’s and labour organisations in this work.
The Labour dept. is going to arrange a programme to impart training to the registered unemployed educated youth to augment their expertise for employment-oriented job. The fifty percent of the cost of the training programme will be met by the labour dept, for each student and the financial limit. For each student cannot be more than five thousand.
Shri Anadi Sahu MOS.(Labour dept) said that his department is considering a programme, for financial assistance to the parents of the poor ?child. The govt. has already sent a programme to the Central Govt. 912 child labour Project have been sanctioned by the Central Govt. out of which 869 schools are already functioning with 43,500 students. The govt. wishes to impart a quality education, presently residential school have been set up in South Dinajpur, South 24- Parganas, Hooghly districts at the cost of Rs. 11 lakhs. Financial stipend of Rs. 1200, are being given to the poor students yearly to continue their studies after Madhyamik.
