21 Oct :Minister of state in the Ministries of Tourism and Culture Smt. Kanti Singh informed the Rajya Sabha today that the National Library’s treasure of rare books, manuscripts and letters associated with Rabindra Nath Tagore, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Sarat Chandra Chatterjee and Sarojini Naidu have been found intact and not stolen from the Kolkata’s National Library.
There was no register, but a catalogue of Library’s rare books which corroborates with the stock in the Rare Books Division of the Library The catalogue is being used by scholars.
In a written reply , the Minister said, CAG had reported non-cooperation of the then Director (I/C) National Library with the Audit team. They have stated that this deliberate act of non production of records needs to be viewed seriously by the Government.
