28 Oct : Kerala Chief Minister and CPI-M veteran V S Achuthanandan has expressed concern over religious education "moulding" young minds into "anti-national elements".
Community organisations imparting religious education should introspect if they were helping create "betrayers", he said, addressing the valedictory function meeting of the 62nd anniversary of the Punnapra-Vayalar uprising at Cherthala near Alappuzha on Monday night.
He called upon the people to uphold the value of patriotism above all else, as the unity and integrity of the nation faced diverse challenges.
CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, who was also present, refuted the opposition charge that the ruling LDF was being soft towards communal outfits as it had received their support in the last assembly polls.
The propaganda that the LDF had sought the support of the NDF, a Kerala-based under scanner for their alleged extremist links, was a "patent lie", Viajayan said. The Punnapra-Vayalar uprising was a popular Communist revolt against the princely state of Travancore in 1946, in which several persons were killed.
