14 Sep : A group of tribals from a Kerala hamlet have knocked the doors of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi seeking their help in reclaiming their land which have been “fraudulently” acquired by a company.
Led by Congress MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, the tribals from Attapady in Idukki district met Singh and Sonia Tuesday morning and Rahul Monday evening claiming that Suzlon company had acquired huge tracts of land belonging to adivasis which could not be transfered to a non-tribal as per law.
The company has started installing wind mills on the land for which the tribals have possession documents and for which they have been paying land revenue tax, Radhakrishnan told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday.
He alleged that the Left Democratic Front government in Kerala was hand-in-glove with the company and were not helping the tribals who were “tricked into” the deal.
After paying the money, Radhakrishnan alleged, the company took possession of the land.
He claimed that inquiries conducted by state government officials, including District Collector, have established that the land were taken fraudulently but the government was shying away from helping the tribals to reclaim their land.
He also demanded a judicial probe into the case.
