June 24 :The Karnataka Assembly and Council reverberated with the issue of farmers’ suicide and police firing. The State Government has ordered Judicial inquiry into the police firing incident in Haveri on June 10th. The Opposition parties however insisted on inter party committee to probe the incident.
They charged that the government has failed to take early steps in resolving the problem faced by the farmers. Replying to the criticism of the Opposition parties in the Assembly, the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa requested the opposition benches to join hands with the government to find ways to make farming a lucrative profession to avoid farmers from taking desperate step of committing suicide. He informed that a meeting is called of farming community leaders, agriculture scientists and political leaders on June 30 in Bangalore to discuss threadbare the issues concerning the community.
