Bharatiya Janta Party, Jammu and Kashmir, today condoled the sad demise of its veteran leader Lala Shiv Charan Gupta, who breathed his last at GMC Hospital today morning. His last rites were performed at Devika Ghat, Udhampur. The party leaders expressed heart felt sympathies with the family members of Lala ji.
Senior leaders of the State BJP including State President Ashok Khajuria, Former Union MoS Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Former State President Daya Krishan Kotwal, Prof. Hari Om, Th. Ranjit Singh, C.P. Ganga, Satish Sharma, Ajay Jamwal, Shamsher Singh Manhas, JMC Mayor Kavinder Gupta, Party MLA Jugal Kishore Sharma, Charanjit Singh Khalsa, Jyoti Parkash Sharma, Yudhvir Sethi, Baldev Sharma, Ramesh Arora, Ch. Sukhnandan, N.D. Rajwal, Pawan Khajuria, Rajesh Gupta, Dinesh Gupta were prominent among those who took part in the cremation.
Lala Shiv Charan Gupta was born on March 3, 1925 at Udhampur. He was sent to jail twice by the Sheikh regime under Praja Parishad agitation. Lala Shiv Charan Gupta was elected to the state assembly four times. He worked in various capacities in social and political circles. He remained President Beopar Mandal, Udhampur, General Secretary Cow Protection Samiti, Chief Organizer of Social Sudhar Sabha, President Ram Leela Club, Udhampur, Vice-Chairman of Town Area Committee, Udhampur, Zonal Secretary of Praja Parishad, Udhampur, Member Central Working Committee of Praja Parishad and Member Central Social welfare Board. He was elected to the State assembly for the first time in the year 1962 on the mandate of Praja Parishad. He was also elected MLA in 1967 and 1977 on the mandate of Jana Sangha. In the year, 1996, Lala Shiv Charan won on the mandate of BJP and was leader of Opposition in the state assembly.
Congress leaders – Health and Medical education Minister Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma and Minister of Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak, Panthers party Supremo Prof. Bhim Singh, Panthers Party MLAs Harsh Dev Singh, Balwant Mankotia and Faqir Nath, National Conference leaders-Ajay Sadhotra and T.S. Wazir were also present during the cremation of Lal Shiv Charan Gupta.
