UDHAMPUR, MARCH-15:-The Minister for Higher Education, Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak have exhorted upon the student community to work hard in achieving excellence in their academics and in co-curricular activities by leaving an indelible mark in the society in line with our exemplary leaders like Swami Vivekananda, Bhagat Singh, Raj Guru etc.so that the nation acknowledges your valuable contribution in national building process.
Addressing at the Annual Day-cum-Prize distribution function of Government PG College for Boys, Udhampur, here this morning, the Minister said that the college students at this stage are full of energy and added that they should utilize it in constructive way to prove an asset to the Nation. Suggesting tips to students for shaping their over all personality, Mr. Charak said that perspective planning and congenial atmosphere are the two main factors in career building process.
Among others, MLA Udhampur, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia was the guest of honour while District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O.P. Kalandria, Director Colleges, Dr. N. D. Wani, Principal of host college, Dr. A.S. Rishi, Principal, Women Degree College, Udhampur, Prof. Kiran Bakshi, prominent citizens and students were present on the occasion.
Expressing his optimism over the capability and desire to excel in different streams, the Minister said that the youth of our country has proved their worth globally. For the purpose, he said that the State Government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad is making all out efforts in providing job oriented education to students so that they could easily get employment just after completion of their academics.
The State Government in its sincere endeavour has started market friendly and job oriented courses in the colleges and introduced in various courses of Information Technologies, Business Management and Science keeping in view the emerging need of present scenario. The state government has opened a number of University Campus, Colleges to expand the reach of students of far-flung hilly area students even to get higher education at their door steps, the Minister asserted.
To streamline the educational system in the colleges many steps have already been initiated, the Minister apprised and added that a high level committee have recently approved the uniform academic calendar for graduate courses in Jammu and Kashmir Divisions. More reforms in examination system would be made after the submission of report by an expert committee constituted for the purpose, the Minister hoped.
Highlighting the importance of Annual Day celebrations in the educational institutions, the Minister said that the day provides an opportunity to the teachers and students to introspect the achievements and shortcomings during the academic session. He urged upon the teachers to put in their coordinated and sincere efforts in providing the quality education to students by inculcating sense of discipline, punctuality and confidence.
The Minister also distributed the prizes among the outstanding students of the college who have excelled academically as well as in co-curricular activities.
In his welcome address the Principal of the college presented annual report highlighting various achievements registered during the academic session 2007-08.
The students of the institution presented a colourful cultural bonanza which was highly appreciated by the audience.
