Srinagar, March 26 (INFO)- A day long workshop on product development, design, intervention, packaging and Rural Industries Service Centre was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) at IMPA here today.
The workshop was presided over by Member Legislative Assembly, Ali Mohammad Sagar.Speakers highlighted the objectives of the Rural Employment Generation Programme, which is a flagship programme of KVIC. It was given out that during 2006-07, about 26,087 projects have been funded creating employment for 5.95 lakh persons. So far, about 2.62 lakh units have been set up under REGP providing employment to 39.68 lakh with an investment of Rs 7985 crore. Besides, providing infrastructure to the local units to upgrade their production
capacity, skills and market promotion and to provide raw material, support, skill upgradation, training quality control, testing facilities design and product development in order to strength the rural cluster are the aims of the programme.
It also aims to make Khadi and Village Industries products more compitable to the changing global fashion and technology.Among others, Abdul Rashid Mir, Additional Commissioner Kashmir M. M Rafiqui Officer Incharge, KVIC, representative of Kashmir Chamber and Commerce, Shakeel Kalander, Chairman Ngo co-ordination federation and others were present at the occasion.
