Bhaderwah, July 21: Rector Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu, Prof. I. A. Hamal has taken a serious note of certain baseless articles that have recently appeared in the press. "Among other things, these news items have reported the accusations made by some individuals and groups who have vested interests, that employment policy of Bhaderwah Campus is biased in favour of one community to the detriment of the members of other communities," Prof. Hamal said.
He said that that it has also been alleged that the antecedents of some of the employees are dubious and are linked to militants and militant-related activities.
"The University of Jammu, Bhaderwah Campus rejects both these accusations. Even a cursory look at the profiles of those employed will reveal that no community is over-represented. Employment is strictly on need and merit basis. Secondly, all prospective employees have to go though a thorough background checks and get a character certificate from the authorities so as to ensure that the security of the campus is not compromised in any manner," Rector Bhaderwah Campus said.
Prof. Hamal further said that the Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu has always welcomed scrutiny from all interested parties, from stakeholders, the Press as well as civil society. "We have been fortunate that the criticism we have received has been by large constructive in nature and that is how Bhadarwah Campus has been able to establish its credentials during a short span of two years. However, baseless charges only serve to vitiate the atmosphere and create a climate of fear and hatred and serve to undermine the efforts put in by the students, staff and faculty to make the Bhaderwah Campus, University of Jammu a world class institution of learning that puts Bhaderwah on the world map,"
He added that all the employment made so far in Bhadarwah Campus is on contractual / casual basis. The permanent posts sanctioned for the Campus have been advertised from the central office Jammu and the interviews are likely to be held in near future.
Prof. Hamal stressed that the concept of a University is universal. He emphasized that on repeated advertisements for contractual lecturers, we could hardly lay hands on few belonging to erstwhile Doda District. "Moreover The University is basically meant for imparting higher education and can never serve as employment generation unit but at the same time prepares an individual for better employment opportunities in government and corporate sectors. The other government organizations need large no. of casual staff for manual work which is not true for a University," he said
