2 June : The activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) led by Vikas Sharma, president, today held a strong protest demonstration at the office of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) against its inaction towards the unauthorized study centre of different universities functioning within the municipal limits.
The activists were annoyed over the absence of all the concerned municipal officers, including Commissioner Mubarak Singh, Joint Commissioner J S Tandon and other ones during the office hours. The activists had gone to the Municipality office to know about the status of action taken by the JMC against the unauthorized and illegal study centers.
It is pertinent to mention here that NSF president Vikas Sharma had submitted a representation on the behalf of the students and scholars of Jammu University seeking closure of all the illegally operating study centers. It was categorically apprised to the Commissioner that all the study centers have not obtained any sort of No Objection Certificate (NoC).
The NSF activists over 30 in number raised slogans against the JMC authorities and demanded stern action against the unauthorized study centers. The protest continued for 30 minutes thereafter, after the assurance of JMC authorities the protesting activists dispersed but, threatened to hold protest once again if no action would be taken on their complaint.
Addressing the protesters, Vikas Sharma said that NSF will take the issue of unauthorized study centers to a logical end and demanded from the JMC to initiate the first steps as these study centers are vitiating the atmosphere of residential areas by creating all sorts of nuisance and mess there.
He also demanded from the Higher Education Department to come forward and make people, particularly innocent students, aware about the reality of such study centers.Among the group of protestors were Rakesh Chib, Vikram Singh, Rahul Mangotra, Sunny Bhagat, Aman Sharma, Sandeep Singh, Paras Shastrri and others.
