Wellington (Niligiris) July 22: The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jammu and Member of the National Knowledge Commission, Professor Amitabh Mattoo, today delivered a path breaking lecture at the Defence Services staff College (DSSC), Wellington. Professor Mattoo delivered a lecture on Jammu and Kashmir: Vision 2020.The lecture was heard by 450 student officers attending the 64th Staff Course at the College. Also in the audience were the senior directing staff of the DSSC, including the Commandant of the College, Let General B.J. Gupta, VSM, and Maj. General Sanjeev Loomba (Chief Instructor-Army).
The students of the course are drawn from all three services and hold the rank of Major/ Lt. Colonel and equivalent ranks from the Air Force and the Navy. Also participating in the course are officers from 30 foreign countries, including officers from South Asia and the Arab world.
Professor Mattoo’s 60-minute lecture was heard in rapt attention as he outlined a vision for a prosperous, peaceful, tolerant and violence-free Jammu and Kashmir. A lively interactive discussion followed the lecture.
The Defence Services Staff College is an Inter-Services Institution Par Excellence and one of the world’s most reputed training institutions for the armed forces. Established in 1948 (when it shifted from Quetta to Wellington), the DSSC is today also seen as an important think-tank of the armed forces.
