Jammu, October 7: Professor Amitabh Matoo , Vice Chancellor University of Jammu today launched Plantation drive in University Campus by planting a Sapling in University Cafeteria.The Plantation drive function was organized by Jammu University Research Scholars Executive Association (JURSEA).
JURSEA has organized an extensive plantation drive at University of Jammu in which more than one hundred plants of different varieties were planted.Numbers of the Scholars , students and administrative staff took oath to conserve environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Amitabh Mattoo appreciated the initiative of JURSEA to launch plantation drive in University of Jammu.Professor Mattoo make a call to the people to respect trees and plants in the manner temples and gods revered and expressed his concerns regarding increasing social and psychological pollution along with environmental pollution and requested that everyone should come forward to check these malaises this responsibility begins first with parents and teachers of the society. "conservation of tress and plants had always been a plant of our religion; cultural tradition but in our times people have not only forgotten these values but there is lack of ever common minimum sensibilities. Gradually diminishing concern for issues of social and environmental importance particularly among younger generation is a serious issues and there is a need for devising strategies for attracting youth towards these issues," Professor Mattoo said.
Vice Chancellor encouraged students to participate in activities which strengthen and enhance national unity, human values, cultural ethoo and ecosphere of our society. Cleanliness is a essential component of all this.
Member Legislative Council (MLC) , MR TS Wazir who was Guest of Honour expressed his happiness over performance and participation of JURSEA in social activities along with education excellence. He also appreciated students of the Varsity for their participation in moves for environment protection. Sri Raman also appreciated and expressed his gratitude towards Vice Chancellor , Professor Amitabh Mattoo for his social and environmental atheism.
In his Welcome address , JURSEA President, Vikas Sharma thanked the Vice Chancellor Professor Amitabh Mattoo for launching this platation drive in the Campus. He said that it is the need of the time that students fraternity should come forward and participate in Plantation drive to protest our environment. "Every new source, from which man has increased his power on earth, has been used to diminish the prospects of his successors. All his progress is being made at the expense of damage to the environment which he cannot repair and cannot forsee," he said .
Other who were present on the occasion were Prof. Desh Bandhu, Prof. Lokesh Verma, Dr PS Pathania, Prof. Archana Kaise, Prof. Jasbir, Gansham Sharma, Auradha Goswami (Chairperson JURSEA), Munish Gandotra, Kamal Deep Singh and Kuldeep.
