Jammu, October 30: State Government has announced the constitution of five member committee for the establishment of State Knowledge Commission.
The five members committee of "State Knowledge Commission" will be headed by Professor Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu and member National Knowledge Commission.
Other members of the committee for include Professor Reyaz Punjabi, Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University. Professor Sadiq Wahid, Vice Chancellor Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipura Kashmir. Shri BB Viyas (IAS), Commissioner/ Secretary to Government Finance Department while as KM Wani Commissioner / Secretary to Government Higher Education Department has been nominated as Member Secretary.
The State Government has asked the five members Committee to submit report with in a period of two months.
According to the government order, the aim behind the Constituting the State Knowledge Commission Committee to work out the modalities to establish J&K State Knowledge Commission.
The Committee has to recommend steps to be taken up to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a Vibrant Knowledge Society and Knowledge economy, to recommend measures to build excellence in the educational system to meet the knowledge Challenges of the 21st Century.
The committee has further to recommend a regulatory frame work to oversee the growth of educational infrastructure in the state, to recommend institutional and curricular reforms needed to promote excellence and inclusion with in the educational system. "The Committee has to suggest measures to make the vocational educational system more industry relevant and socially attractive besides suggesting measures to promote Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in higher education. The Committee has to generate awareness amongst stakeholders about new knowledge initiatives," The order said further asking the committee to prove guidelines for training /retraining of the youth in consonance with the need of the knowledge economy; and to further suggest guidelines for setting up a State Knowledge Commission
It is pertinent to mention here that Professor Amitabh Mattoo is a member of National Knowledge Commission. The National Knowledge Commissions is a high level advisory body to Prime Minister of India created with the objective of transforming India into knowledge Society. It covers sectors from education to e-governance.
Prof. Amitabh Mattoo as the member of National Knowledge Commission has the mandate to guide policy and direct reforms focusing on key areas like education, science and technology , agriculture, industry and e-governance.
The various state government have mooted the proposal to setup knowledge commission to pro-actively initiate and adopt several key reforms and suggestions by the National Knowledge Commission.
This part time honorary assignment comes in the wake of Prof. Amitabh Mattoo’s contribution to the University of Jammu and higher education sector in J&K especially Jammu region.
