Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir panch and sarpanch united forum Wednesday decided to field candidates for the four state legislative council seats to be chosen by the Panchayat representatives.
The united forum of Panches and Sarpanches in a statement issued to GNS said they have decided to participate in the legislative council elections. “We will field candidate for all the four seats,” the statement here said.“The candidates elected from among the village representatives shall work for empowerment of the Panchayats,” the statement said, adding, the political parties in the state are taking anti-Panchayat stand as none of the candidates in the panel of the political parties is either a panch or a sarpanch.
Earlier, the ruling coalition partners (NC-Cong) in J&K, had announced they would jointly contest the forthcoming legislative council elections to be held here next month.
