7 Feb ; A discussion session was organized by National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) regarding forthcoming Panchayat elections .Ashraf Ali Sheikh senior congress leader and sarpanch Pranoo Panchayat of district doda was invited as political expert for the session. Sheikh was received by Mohd. Sajid Malik State Secretary NSUI.
Speaking on the occasion Mubashar Mashqoor Mir state president Health wing of NSUI today demanded immediate Panchayat elections before the month of February so that they get over before exam season starts and that studies of student community in general and student campaigner for the election in particular don’t get affected. He added that elections if carried out after the month of February would cause heavy set back to the students preparing for exams and exam schedule will also get disturbed as the teachers would be assigned election duties at the time of panchayat elections.
Ashraf Ali Sheikh, a senior congress leader and sarpanch of pranoo area of Distt. Doda hailed government’s initiative to conduct panchayat elections but expressed concern over delay in the same. He further added that elections should be carried before the month of February as the nomads who form a major chunk of the voter count migrate to the grass lands afterwards and any delay in conducting elections would render them unable to exercise ice their voting right. Sheikh appealed to the coalition govt to put in serious attention as delay in these elections will have a serious impact on the rural life directly. He demanded conduction of Panchayat elections at the earliest.
