Bishnah, May 28: Senior Congress leader Mr Mohinder Bhardwaj has lambasted the BJP-led Government at the Centre and its coalition dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir for totally disregarding the needs of the people of Jammu region and in particular Jammu district. A manifestation of this step-motherly treatment towards Jammu is the shifting of AIIMS to the Valley and stopping the Tawi lake project.
Addressing a public meeting to kick start Congress membership drive here on Thursday, Mr Bhardwaj, a senior advocate also, said that the BJP has a lot to explain to people of Jammu for not fulfilling even a single promise which the saffron party had during Lok Sabha and subsequently in Assembly election campaigns. This has exposed the true face of the party and its leaders that they had contested election only for lust of power and public well-being was nowhere in their plans.
Congratulating people of Jammu for successful bandh to protest against the anti-Jammu polices of the Centre and the state governments, he warned that the situation could go out of hand if the aspirations of the people are not met. The two governments should immediately fulfil their promises made to the people both on developmental and political fronts.
Mr Bhardwaj expressed anguish that the people living in border areas have been totally ignored by the state government after they were rendered homeless and suffered huge losses due to unprovoked Pakistan firing. It is amazing that the muscle flexing Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi is now nowhere to be seen as the people continue to suffer. At the same time the silence of the state BJP leaders on this and other issues pertaining to the region is criminal and people will punish them for that.
The Congress leader also lambasted the state government and the local administration for totally neglecting Bishnah and adjoining areas in the matter of development. The roads are in bad condition and the irrigation network is in shambles. At the same time the power and drinking water supply situation is pathetic. He also said that the damage to the crops during the floods has also not been accessed by the authorities.
He warned that the government must wake up and take remedial measures or else people under the banner of the Congress will be forced to take to the streets. Already people are seething with anger and any further instigation by the BJP-PDP combine government can lead to serious consequences.
The clock has already started ticking for the BJP-PDP government in the state. It is only a matter of time before the coalition will crack and people will get an opportunity to elect their true representatives, Mr Bhardwaj added.
Addressing the meeting JKPCC General Secretary and former Minister Dr Manohar Lal said that the BJP with governments at the Centre and in unholy alliance with the PDP in the state has let down the people of Jammu. The people of the region reposed full faith in the party by giving them 25 Assembly seats and the subsequent results are for everyone to see.
He assured the people that the Congress will do everything possible, as it has been doing in the past, to fight for the people’s genuine demands. Redressal of people’s demands particularly those living in border villages is the prime concern of the Congress for which it will go to any extent.
