JAMMU, MARCH 15 – Modernization and desilting work of 29 km Ravi Tawi Irrigation Canal (RTIC) is apace at a cost of Rs. 10.61 crore and so far 6.55 crore have
been spent on the work. This was informed to the Minister of State for PHE, Irrigation and CAPD S. Manjit Singh during his visit to various spots of canal in Vijaypur constituency.
The Minister also took stock of work of the channels of the canal at Radian, Rada, Devbuj Kaka, Devbuj Shezda, Jogpur, Dolian and Dhayansar.
Interacting with the people at several places, Minister said that after desilting the canal 36680 acres of land is being irrigated for Rabi and Kharief crops. He said that the government is committed to provide maximum benefits to the farmers in the shape of irrigation water, fertilizers etc. He expressed satisfaction over the modernization and desilting of Ravi Tawi irrigation canal and hoped that water will be reach at the tail end for irrigation. He said water would be released after April 13 for irrigation purposes.
He instructed the engineers of RTIC for construction of culverts at Devbuj, Dolian and Jogpur besides Ghat at Devbuj. He asked the authorities to aware the people for maintenance of canals and they should be appealed not to throw the garbage in canals. He also instructed for taking up the matter with UEED regarding construction of drains along the canal sides for protection of canals.
Minister also inspected the Raya Lift Irrigation complex and took stock of its functioning.
To protect the canal syphon at Raya Nallah and Blowel Nallah. the Minister instructed for laying crate bunds. He also paid visit to newly constructed government high school building at Trore and took stock of finishing work there.
While addressing the officers and staff of RTIC the Minister exhorted for them to redouble their efforts and come to the expectations of the people in providing irrigation water at large scale to the farmers.
Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer RTIC Mr. P. R. Bhagat, Superintending Engineer Mr. Dalip Bakshi and other senior engineers of the department.
