Doda, April 02 – The J&K Khadi & Village Industries Board (KVIB) has started a contact awareness campaign to aware the women and unemployed youths for undertaking craft training programme for the first generation entrepreneurs in order to set up their own income generating units in rural areas. In its first phase campaign has been launched in of Doda & Kishtwar districts.
This was stated by Secretary, KVIB, Sh. R. C. Sharma after inaugurating a cutting – tailoring and craft centres at Kelotran and Henno of Tehsil Gandhoo, Bhalesa of Doda District today.He also sanctioned two centres one for Cutting and Tailoring and another for Gabba sazi for Hudri and Nagini. While inspecting the various REGP units sponsored by the KVIB, he interacted with the unit holders to know their problems with regard to raw material, production and sale. He said KVIB has carried out various activities to cater to the artisans and craftsmen mostly in rural areas and even in those places which are not easily accessible. To cover such backward and rural areas where the response of the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) being implemented by the Board is low keeping in view the KVIB has started such contact awareness campaigns.
Briefing about the implementation of the REGP programme and its operational modalities in the area, Mr. Sharma said that it has become essential to generate sustainable employment with in the villages in view of the limited opportunities being available in that area. He said that in these areas economic activities are very less resulting that the rural folks are neglected and they should come forward and avail of the opportunities through REGP of the Board in which 30 % subsidy component is also available. He impressed upon the need for reviving of traditional industries in order that the rural beneficiaries are able to supplement their income by such economic activities.
