Jammu, March 18 (INFO) –Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has established 2004 income generating units with margin money of Rs 11.26 crore
generating employment avenues for 29953 persons under Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) during current fiscal.
This was revealed at the 95th Board meeting of Khadi and Village Industries which was held here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Industries and Commerce Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora.
During the meeting the achievements under various programmes and new schemes besides development of infrastructure under the KVI sector were discussed threadbare. The Board approved for setting of processing plant cum Common Facility Centres at Jammu, Doda, Srinagar and Pulwama and testing laboratory under Science & Technology at Bag-i-Ali Mardan Khan Srinagar with the financial support of KVIC. The construction of Khadi Plaza at Jammu &
Srinagar and the upgradation of sub-offices as district offices at newly created administrative units (Districts) and the proposal for creation of Additional staff for taking up with the government were also approved. The Board members unanimously resolved that the land for Khadi Plaza should be made available for Khadi products at Boule-ward road, Srinagar
The Board also appreciated the initiatives taken for cluster development, project development and Design Intervention, Bee-keeping woolen Khadi, embroidery, Kani shawls and Chain stitch and cotton Khadi.
The meeting informed that out of 6500 villages in the state, REGP is being implemented in 5218 villages with the basic objective of increasing Khadi productivity and sustainable employment to rural folk to make them self reliant. As many as 500 more villages would be covered by the next two years.
The KVIB organized 21 training camps under craft and Entrepreneur Development Programme, 45 awareness camps, 3 bankers meets, 5 training camps under bee keeping besides 2 state and 4 district level exhibitions, the meeting divulged and added that to provide the insurance protection to artisans 1750 persons were covered under Jan Shree Bima Yojana.
It was also given out that 15 offices have been computerized besides work on 17 district and sub-offices is in progress.With the financial assistance of KVIC, the Board has established 26664 individual units, 4 Khadi institutes generating employment opportunities for 64537 persons. The Board has also come up with the proposal to establish a Common Facility Centre one each at Jammu, Doda, Srinagar and Pulwama districts of the state with the assistance of KVIC Mumbai besides construction of Khadi Plaza at Canal Road.
A presentation on working of KVI sector was also made on the occasion. Among others, the meeting was attended by Special Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Additional Secretary Rural Development and other members of the Board.
