We have created a distorted knowledge economy: VC JU Srinagar June 7 : Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice Chancellor University of Jammu today said that "from Srinagar to Silicon valley Our students can be employed , provided we make them employable and equip them with three "languages" English , Mathematics and computers besides other subjects.
Prof. Amitabh Mattoo was addressing Dean and HOD,s of different departments of Kashmir University during an interactive session organized by KU to know Prof. Mattoo’s views on higher education and to facilitate him as well .
Vice chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Riyaz Punjabi, Deans of faculties, Heads of the university departments and centers , senior faculty and senior officers of the university were present at the lecture held in the committee room of the administrative block of the University of Kashmir.
A Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford , Professor Mattoo was highly appreciative of present Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof Riyaz Punjabi and while hinting at VC KU’s dream of "knowledge society " Prof. Mattoo said " let us not miss the knowledge revolution bus which is waiting for us ".
Prof. Mattoo said "We produce alienated youth with degrees instead kind of workers who are employable here and outside."
Emphasizing that knowledge revolution is not a pipe dream but a possibility VC JU, called for blending of technology with existing human resources and emphasized the need for creating infrastructure while proliferating schools and colleges which he said is the need of the hour, Prof. Mattoo said "we got to expand and it is important to position ourselves and provide higher education at the doorsteps of the members of our society."
Earlier Vice -Chancellor University of Kashmir Prof Riyaz Punjabi felicitated the learned guest by presenting him a Kashmir shawl on behalf of Ku fraternity and said that Prof. Mattoo is the son of the soil and very much concerned about Kashmir especially the education scenario here. . "I shall cherish and remember thought my the love and respect showered by me by KU fraternity and their Vice chancellor Prof Riyaz Punjabi "" said VC JU who was impressed , the way KU fraternity felicitated him.
Prof Amitab Matoo was highly impressed with the ideas KU faculty shared with him in the interactive session especially the concepts like ‘institution industry linkages " " strategic planning" and "blending of teachers and technology for packaging of knowledge for creation of knowledge society " put forward by Prof F .A Masudi, Prof Musadiq .A Sahaf and Mr Shahid Rasool during the interactive session that followed the speech of VC JU .
Born in Srinagar on 26 June 1962 Professor Mattoo had his early education in Burn Hall School, Srinagar and the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Professor Mattoo did his Doctorate in International Relations from the University of Oxford, United Kingdom.
