Jammu, 06 Dec: The activists of Jammu Youth Forum today torched the effigy of Vice-Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni in front of the CL in Jammu University. They also raised slogans against Pro-Chancellor.
JYF activists demanded from the State Government not to give extension to Vice Chancellor even for a single day as he has already spoiled the University and students would not be able to tolerate him anymore.
Addressing the protesters, JYF State President Sandeep Singh Chib said the Vice Chancellor has been a complete failure on all the fronts. Neither he could control the widespread corruption nor did he offer any relief to the students and scholars studying in Jammu University.
He alleging large scale irregularities in the spending incurred on the hosting of inter University event Virasat-e-Riyasat event in Feb. 2011.
He also alleged that a lavish expenditure was made by the University on that event neglecting the needs of students and scholars. The budget of the event was misappropriated by the office of Dean Students Welfare. The money spent on the paper was much more than what actually spend. The number of participants was much lower but on paper the participation was exposed much higher hence, large sum was misappropriated. Whereas, the welfare activities for students and scholars have been stopped for the want of money, which is highly unfortunate.
Chib demanded from the Dean Student Welfare Dr N K Tripathi to share the expenditure details with the students and scholars so that truth is unearthed. If the expenditure of Virasat E Riyasat will not be made public, the students would not left with any other than to launch indefinite agitation against the Dean Student Welfare for an indefinite period.
Chib further said “Vice-Chancellor has also turned mute spectator to the wrong doings in the campus. Being Chancellor he is duty bound to control the things but he is completely out of picture.
Among those who were present in the protest included, Balveer Kumar University President, Rahul Kumar, Amit Sharma, Rahul Gupta, Jyoti Sharma, Renu Kumari, Sanjay, Sachin Sharma, Neeraj, Sapna, and others.
