2 Aug : Jammu University Teachers’ Association (JUTA) in an emergent meeting of the office bearers appeals to all the concerned for the early resolve of the sufferings of the jammuities in general and of the students community in particular.JUTA being a body of the intellectuals is highly concerned for the loss being meted due to the prevailing situation to the academics and to the economy of the region due to the indifferent attitude of the administration and so appeals the adminstration to respect the sentiments and feelings of the general public of the Jammu region in raising the voice for the fundamental cause of the religious freedom in the secular India. Jammu region people have always encouraged the national ethos and are always been peaceful even when they have been suffering the worst ever discrimination due to the wrong policies of the state politics. To raise the voice against the suppression of ones religious rights is not to be treated as the voice of the anti nationals.
In this period of the turmoil, the worst suffers happen to be the students who are not only idle without classrooms but many of the examinations and the admissions to the higher educational institutes are being postponed or getting rescheduled thus causing the agony as well as mental torture. This agony has been compounded further by the erratic supply of the power to the region which has resulted many of the youths to vent out their anger by smashing the electric meters.
Thus, JUTA in a larger interests of the community appeals to all the parties in maintaining peace , communal harmony as well as secular fabric of the region as their utmost priority while pursuing the genuine demand of the land transfer back to the SASB. The protesters should resist from damaging the public property like the electric meters as well as the buildings. On the same hand government should take all care of the feelings and the emotions of the Jammu region public which has all time suffered the discrimination from time to time, may it be in the distribution of the seats in the professional colleges or in the power sharing arrangements or may it be the development of the tourism in this region or the development of the infrastructure projects. The demand of the University of Jammu which has all the merits to be declared as the central university status, could not be done so again on the pure reasons of the discrimination.
May we appeal to the His Excellency the Governor of the state as well as the Chancellor of the University of Jammu that the central university status may be accorded to the JU at the earliest which will a definitely prove a mile stone in assuaging the hurt feelings of the Jammuities as well as it may be helpful in mitigating the discrimination against Jammu region going on for the last 60 years and thereby enabling the government to have its first step in the direction of the congenial environment as has been demanded by the large section of the society from the administration to start the process of the dialogue.
