BJP Kissan Morcha State President Ch. Sukhnandan has took the state government to task for its total failure to ensure regular supply of electricity in rural areas. He said the rural areas house population of farmers who work round the year to produce crops for the whole population. But there is no one in the government to work for the mitigation of the problems being faced by the farmers. He said the farmers need supply of electricity to run pumping motors in the fields for irrigation purposes but in absence of regular supply of electricity, they can not sow the seeds in time. It results into poor or no crops. A farmer who is wholly dependent on crops for their survival have been running from post to pillar and urging the authorities to take pity on them.
Ch. Sukhnandan said that 7-8 hours cut in a day is the height of the discriminatory policies towards the farmers. The concerned department and its officials are only concerned for the ministers and MLAs and never bother to look into the complaints of irregular supply in the rural areas. Not only this, night cuts between 12 mid night and 6 a.m. on alternate days too adds problems which needs to be stopped immediately. He said when the farmers pump out water from earth to irrigate their fields, the fields get dried during day time. So farmers prefer irrigating fields during night hours and for that night power cute need to be stopped. The long power cuts in rural areas also affects the studies of the students. He urged the authorities to take immediate steps to ensure regular supply of electricity in rural areas particularly during nights.
