A few days ago, on March 8, nation celebrated International Women Day. Workshops, seminars and similar other programmes were held in which marathon discussions were held on plight of the women in India and need to empower them. Such events were not organised for the first time. These are being organised every year. But why? It is claimed that "society is incomplete without a woman". It is also claimed that "behind every successful man, there is a woman". If she is so much important and contributes a lot for the family and society, then why only one day in a year is celebrated as Women Day? Does the male dominated society believe that her co-operation and participation is not required for all the 365 days in a year? This shows that the male-dominated society still wants to have its stranglehold over the society. Thats why attempts are being made to convey that a woman is still inferior to man and needs empwerment.
It is universal fact that a woman has been empowered by God to give birth to the young ones? It means even God has honoured a woman with such a noble responsibilty.
Just a few examples will prove beyond any doubt that it is the women and not the men who deserve high respect in the society.
on one hand, the civilised society claims of treating women equal and giving them full repect in every filed, on the other, the same society marks just one day in 365 days as Women Day. The people forget that it is the women and women alone without whose active support and dedicated services, the men cannot survive even for a single day and what to talk of 365 days. Then what is the need of celebrating Women day once in a year?
In need of wealth, people pray Maa Lakshmi. In need of education, they pray Maa Saraswati and when in tension, pray Maa Chintpurni. The same people remember Ma Kaali to escape evils. Why Hindus feel need of a kanya-a minor female – in Navratras? Who is this Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kaali and Kanya? All are women/females. What does it mean?
It is a popular saying-"if you educate a boy, u educate a person but if you educate a girl, you educate a family. And this is true. A golden jubilee film titled Deewar with Amitabh Bachan and Shashi Kapoor playing role of real brothers and Nirupa Roy as mother had a very heart touching scene. In a very exciting scene, Amitabh Bachan cliams of having property, motor cars, luxuries of life and asks Shashi Kapoor what does he posses ? Shashi Kapoor very gently replies-mere paas maa hai.Who is this maa which Shashi Kapoor felt proud to have? None other but a woman.
In another bollywood film titled "Avtaar"parents are shown losing all hopes of survivalof their male child. At last, on the advise of some elder they visit the shrine of Maa Vaisho and have blessings. And to their surprise, the parents get their baby back to life. Who is this Maa Vaishno? Again a female/woman. The river Ganga is called Ganga Maiyya and has very high respect amongst the Hindus. The mortal remains of Hindus are flown into river Ganga. The Hindu epics have described Ganga as the most sacred river. Every Hindu wishes to take a dip in Ganga atleast once in lifetime to get rid of his sins. Who is this Ganga Maiyya? Again, a female/woman.
Every year,in Hindu culture, Karva chouth, a day of fast is being observed by wives for the good health and long lives of their husbands.Who is this husband and who is this wife? Husband is a man while wife is again a woman. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, sisters tie rakhis on the wrists of their brothers for their long lives.Who is this sister and brother? Again, sister is female or woman and brother is male or man.
A few of the mentioned facts prove that it is the female/woman who plays a very very important role in her life as mother, sister and wife.
Mother Teressa, won the Noble Prize for the service of mankind. She was a woman, who accepted to live amongst the people suffering from leprosy. She served them like her own children throughout her life. Her concern for the humanity brought so much respect that people came to recognise her as "Mother".
Who is not aware of the fact that the first word a child utters in Maa? Again, isn’t it fact that Maa is remembered by all in case of illness or sufferings.
Men claims of conquering space and Mount Everst. So what? Men have reached highest positions in political, social, judicial, business, profesional and technical fields. Then what? Women too have excelled in all these fields. What extraordinary men have done?
In their public speeches, men talk too much of treating women at par with them, but unfortunately they can’t digest it in their practical lives.People always pray for a boy and not for a girl child. Blessings of elders are for male and not for a female child. It is total injustice. The need of the day is to give respect and honour to women.Provide equal opportunities to them to prove their capabilities. Dont celebrate just one day in a year as Women Day but accept every day in the life as Women Day
