JAMMU,Jan 31: A five-day training programme for the NGO functionaries of Jammu region was started by the Department of Lifelong Learning (formerly Centre for Adult, Continuing Education and Extension), University of Jammu, here today. The training programme is being attended by over 35 functionaries of various voluntary,charitable,Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and community/grass root level workers of Jammu region.
Welcoming the participants,Dr. Kavita Suri, Assistant Director, Department of Lifelong Learning who is also the coordinator of programme,informed that the DLL has been closely working with community leaders, NGOs etc for its various field outreach and extension activities. She said a need was felt to fill the gaps in running of a voluntary/charitable organisation smoothly and for this it was desired by the community leaders that a training programme be organized. She informed that this is the second training programme for the voulntary organisations and many similar training programmes would be organised in the near future. The rationale for this training programme is to strengthen the process of planning development schemes and making them need relevant, people friendly and also to ensure effective implementation, monitoring and follow up of the schemes at the field level, she added.
Dr. Suri also informed that an NGO capacity building training module has been developed by the DLL to address significant needs among the people living in Jammu and Kashmir. She also informed that a certificate course in extension education and ‘NGO development and Management’ would soon be started.
Mr. H.N.Tiku, president, J&K Confederation of voluntary and Charitable Organizations, Dr Renu Nanda, Associate Professor, Department of Education who is also a well known social activist and Dr Sarika Manhas, Assistant Professor, Department of Home science, University of Jammu took three sessions on the first day.
The topics to covered in the five-day training programme include NGO Skills: A Checklist; Starting an NGO: Logistics; NGO Management: Strategic Planning; Project Development: Design and Management; Financial Management: Grant-Writing and Budgeting; Building Networks: Community and Government Relations; and NGO Public Relations: Media and Advocacy.
The programme was attended by Dr. Pallavi Sachdeva, Dr. Bharti Prabhakar, Mr.Sandeep Singh Sandy,Dr. Priyanka Sharma, all project officers, DLL, besides a large number of NGO representatives including Mr O.P Gupta from Childline and Gram Vikas Sangh, Mrs Santosh Basotra, Lal Ded Welfare Society, Mr Om Raj Bhal, general Secretary, All J&K Scheduled Caste Welfare Association, VOICE organisation.EOM
