Jammu, January 13 : Two day seminar organised jointly by Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu University of Jammu and Department of Urdu , University of Kashmir concluded here today with a resolution for establishing Urdu Academy in Jammu and Kashmir beside setting up of an State owned Urdu Channel and Urdu to be introduced compulsory subject from 1st to 10th standard.Vice Chancellor Kashmir University Prof. Reyaz Punjabi was the chief guest of the valedictory function while as Secretary Cultural Academy presided over the function. Dr Ali Javed of Delhi University, Prof. Shohab Malik and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik also shared the presidium with them.
Addressing the galaxy of intellectual, Prof. Reyaz Punjabi stressed to identify those places where Urdu is not being taught in Schools and Colleges. “As announced yesterday about the setting up of a committee, we have decided that the committee comprising of some prominent Urdu writers of both Jammu and Kashmir University will submit a detailed report to both the Vice Chancellors which will be further submitted to State government for remedial measurers within two months,” Prof. Reyaz Punjabi said adding the report will help the state government to restore the past glory of Urdu Language.
Dr. Ali Javed of Delhi University, Prof. Shohab Malik of Jammu University and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Malik of Kashmir University strongly demanded setting of an Urdu academy in the state. They further demanded that beside setting up of an Urdu Academy in Jammu and Kashmir state there is immense need to established State owned Urdu Channel and Urdu to be introduced compulsory subject from 1st to 10th standard.

Earlier in the two day Seminar near about fifty papers were presented by the renowned Urdu writers who had come to attend the seminar from different parts of the Country on the subject “Urdu in J&K Past, Present and Future”
