Jammu, 22 : To celebrate the World Water Day, Pancayat Halqa Jandrah in Collaboration with the IWMP, Integrated Water Management Program Department, Jammu organized one day awareness camp along with a Painting Competition on the ‘Save Water’ theme.
On the occasion, hundreds of students from local schools of nearby Panchayats and a large number of inhabitants of the area participated in the program.
Anil Sharma, Sarpanch of the Panchayat Halq Jandrah while addressing the gathering urged them to save each drop of water and keep the water bodies clean. He also informed that the United Nation Organization designated the first world water day on 22/March/1993 and since then each year this day is celebrated worldwide to educate people about importance of Water Conservation and Sanitation. He also thanked the government of India and officers of the IWMP, J & K government for providing adequate funds for construction of ponds, wells and check dams to conserve water. Sharma informed that during the last 5 years over 20 water bodies including ponds and wells are created and rejuvenated in different wards of the Panchayat Halqa.
Dr Shehnaz, Coordinator and representative of the IWMP also called for optimum and judicious use of water which is the most precious natural wealth. She asked the people to come forward and have the maximum benefits of various schemes for the conservation of water supported by government of India and the State Government. She also appreciated the role of the Panchayat Halqa Jandrah for organizing such awareness programs involving Students who are the future of the nation.
After the painting Competition, the students took out a march rally from the Panchayat Headquarter to Main Bazar, Jandrah chanting Slogans “Jal Hal to Kal Hai” and “Water is Life, Save It”.
Other prominent who were present on the occasion include, Parveen Kumar, Deepika Jamwal officials of the IWMP, Bansi Lal, Sarpanch Panchayat Halqa Kishanpur, Parkash Singh, Sarpanch Kothar, Mohan Lal Verma, Sarpanch Patyari, Raghubir Singh, Sarpanch Nagola, Gunga Dutt Sharma, Headmaster, Chander Moli Sharma, Sachin Sharma, Sunil Sharma, Rameshwar Singh, Govind Singh, Junaid Ali, Saleem Mohammad and Kaka Ram.
