February 09 : Shri Jai Ram Thakur, Rural Development and Panchayti Raj Minister called on Sh. C.P. Joshi, Central Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj at Jaipur yesterday. Shri Thakur apprised him of the progress being made by Himachal Pradesh in implementation of MNREGA.
Stressing the need for opening Panchayati Raj training institutions in Mandi, he said that after 50 % women reservation in Panchayati Raj institutions, their role has increased manifold. He said that training is necessary in order to bring about awareness about the various schemes being run by the central and State Governments. He said that at present, only two Panchayati Raj Institution one at Bajnath in District Kangra and another at Mashobra in District Shimla are functioning. To ensure the effective implementation of the schemes, Panchayats have to play a bigger role, he added.
Shri Thakur urged him that the Net Present Value of the roads under construction under PMGSY should be borne by the Central Government. He said that Net Present Value should be added to the DPR so as to bring pace in the under construction works.
He informed that at present 5-member team of State Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department is on a tour to Rajasthan to inspect works being undertaken by Rajasthan Government Under MNREGA.
