Dr. Rajiv Bindal, Health Minister congratulated Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Chief Minister for holding a high level meeting with Shri Prakash Singh Badal, Punjab Chief Minister to discuss various inter-state issues yesterday.
He lauded the decision of according priority to construction of Chandigarh-Baddi road and agreeing in principle to complete it before June, 2009. He said that this would give boost to industrial activities in Baddi-Barotiwala area and added that this issue was pending since long time. He further said that the proposal to connect the international airport to be constructed at Mohali to Ambala-Ropar Express Highway with Baddi would also facilitate transportation of industrial products besides encouraging social and economic activities in the area.
He said that the historic Shah Nehar Agreement between Himachal and Punjab Governments was held during the earlier tenure of Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal and added that with the decision to obtain financial assistance from Central Government for this project, both the States would be benefitted.
Dr. Bindal said that relations with neighbouring States would be strengthened by supplying them electricity when needed. He also welcomed the proposal to explore the possibilities of constructing medium hydro electric projects jointly with the neighbouring States.
He said that tourism sector has emerged as main source of revenue and lacs of national and international tourists visit the State every year. He said that State Government was promoting religious tourism and with the decision to construct 8 kms. Ropeway between Anandpur Sahib and Shri Naina Devi Jee on BOT basis, such activities would get big boost.
Health Minister hoped that the high level meeting would accelerate the pace of development in the State.
