December 08, 2008 :An official spokesman said here today State Government has increased Social Security Pension from Rs. 200 to 300 per month with an objective to provide social security cover to as many as 2,37,282 eligible persons including old aged, widows, handicapped and lepers in the State adding that the pension amount is disbursed at their doorsteps quarterly in advance through money orders. He said that in the series, the pension during current financial year from April to December, 2008 has been disbursed to the beneficiaries on quarterly basis.
He further informed that State Government has made another increase by 10 percent in the Social Security Pension, from Rs 300 to Rs. 330 per month w.e.f. 1st January, 2009. Now each beneficiary would get a sum of Rs 990 quarterly through money order from January, 2009.
The spokesman informed that the government has decided in principle that all eligible persons including old, widows, handicapped and lepers belonging to BPL families would be considered for social security pension on priority basis. He said that, as a result, 374 eligible pensions belonging to BPL families have been covered upto 1st April, 2008. Adding that 7452 such persons had already been covered upto February, 2008. He said that Rs. 90 crore are being spent under the scheme during current financial year.
