Holi is the festival of social coherence and it strengthens our social fabric and brotherhood when people celebrate it together keeping their personal hostilities at bay. Shri V.S. Kokje , Governor stated this while presiding over the concluding function of the four-day long State-level Holi festival at Palampur last evening. He also performed symbolic inauguration of the cultural night by lighting the lamp. Shri Kokje said that the Holi festival of Palampur had carved out its distinct place amidst the fairs and festivals of the State with its traditional splendour well kept-up in the face of the present changing social scenario. Underlining the importance of fairs and festivals in human life, Shri Kokje said that these festivals go a long way in making people coalescing their social, traditional and cultural values and civilization, besides, being coherent of social texture and mutual co-operation. Governor evinced keen interest while taking a round of the exhibitions installed by Women Self-Help Groups and appreciated their efforts as a big stride for making themselves financially self-reliant. He also honoured six local persons for their best contributions made to the successful organization of the fair. Earlier, Shri Praveen Sharma, Local MLA and Chief Patron of the Holi Festival welcomed the Chief guest and said that this fair was being celebrated for the past over three decades. Shri K.K. Pant, Deputy Commissioner, Kangra, Shri Atul Fuljale, S.P., SDM-and Chairman, Palampur Holi Mela Committee were also present on the occasion among others.
