The seven day long International Shivratri Fair concluded at Mandi today. Shri V.S. Kokje, Governor presided over the concluding function. Speaking on the occasion, Shri V.S. Kokje said that Himachal Pradesh was known as an abode of Lord Shiva and also for its rich cultural heritage. He said that fairs and festivals were playing significant role in preserving the rich cultural traditions.
He said that such fairs go a long way in exhibiting the culture and local products of particular areas of the State. Earlier, Governor was accorded rousing reception on his arrival at Mandi. He also offered prayers in Shri Raj Madhav Rai temple and participated in the procession alongwith local people besides home guards, police, NCC and school children.
Cultural programmes and wrestling competitions were the main attractions on the occasion.Later, Governor awarded prizes to the winners of various events organized during the fair. Shri Onkar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman, Shivratri Fair Committee welcomed the Governor and detailed out the highlights of the fair. He said that as many as 190 deities participated in the fair out of the 216 invited deities.
Smt. Leena Kokje, Lady Governor, Col. Inder Singh, MLA, Shri Ashwani Kapur, Divisional Commissioner, Mandi and prominent people of the town were present on the occasion.
