The State Government is determined to provide better and specialized health Services to the people of the State at their door steps. Health institutions of standard are being opened in the State to ensure availability of trained manpower for health sector in the State.
The State Government has achieved many milestones in the field of medical education. A New Cath Lab would be started in IGMC, Shimla from next year. A Rs. 150 crore project has been sanctioned under ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surakasha’ yojna to develop Dr. R.P. Govt. Medical College, Tanda on the pattern of AIIMS. Under the project, Foundation-stone has been laid for establishing a 200 bedded speciality hospital with an estimated cost of Rs. 80 crore. Doctorate of Medicine in Cardiology and Master of Cheirology in Cardio-Thoracis and Vascular Surgery in IGMC, Shimla would also be started.During 2010-11, Department of Medical Education has made commendable progress in the field of Medical Science. Besides teaching, training and successful treatment of patients, it remained its endeavour to achieve the status of premier position on the analogy of Medical Institutions at par Excellency in the country. Medical Education Department remained concerned not only to allow the continuity of all going on schemes/progamme but much stress was given towards increasing post-graduate seats and introduction of new Post Graduate Degree courses and filling up of seats of GNM and B. Sc Nursing in the Government as well in private recognized Institutions & in order to provide the better health care to the patients all out efforts were made to fill up the vacant posts of teaching as well as other supporting staff.
The MBBS seats has been increased from 65 to 100 seats in IGMC, Shimla from the academic session 2010-2011, P.G. seats increased from 39 to 74 in various streams, DNB courses has also been started in the department of Cardiology.
The letter of Intent has been received from MCI to start DM in Cardiology and MD in Psychiatry and to start MD in Pulmonary Medicine and MCH. During the year, Government of India has provided Rs. 520.50 lakh for up-gradation of Nursing School into Nursing College. In this regard Government has started the Nursing College at IGMC with the intake capacity of 60 students for BSc. Nursing from the session 2010-11.
64 Slice CT Scan Machine has been installed in the Department of Radiology, a new Telecoblat unit has also been started and put to use in current Financial Year. The First Eye Bank of State has been started in IGMC wherein latest machinery and equipments installed. Recently transplantation of cornea replacement has also been successfully carried out in the Department. Video Bronchoscope System for the department of Pulmonary Medicine which will diagnose Lung cancer etc. and TUR set and Video Endoscopy System in the Department of Surgery would help to treat patients suffering from prostate disease and urology problems.
H.P. Government has granted the permission to increase the MBBS seats from 50 to 100 in Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College and Hospital, Kangra at Tanda and the matter is under process for permission from the Govt. of India. The batch of DNB courses in the Deptt. of Radiology, Anaesthesia and Surgery for the session 2010-11 has been started. A 5th Batch of B.Sc. Para Medical course has been started and process to start other Para Medical course of Ophthalmic Asstt. etc. also under active consideration of the Govt. The foundation stone of the Super speciality Block has recently been laid in Dr. RPGMC and Hospital, Kangra at Tanda.
